Prosocial Adolescent Specialized Treatment (PAST)
Gibault's PAST Program provides treatment to adolescent males ages 12-18 who have a history of engaging in sexually harmful/reactive behavior.
The PAST Program seeks to:
- Reduce the risk to engage in sexually abusive behavior or other harmful behaviors and increase their ability to live healthy, productive lives with the ultimate goal of making communities safer.
- Provide a place where youth are able to address the challenges they are facing while remaining in a caring, compassionate and therapeutic environment, where youth can learn to make healthier choices.
- Reduce identified dynamic risk factors and increase protective factors.
- Increase use of problem solving and coping skills.
- Focus with family on identifying strengths and building upon them, improving communication and strengthening relationships.
The PAST program follows a Risk-Needs-Responsivity (RNR) model with a focus on risk assessment, identification and exploration of the youth's treatment needs and the interaction between the youth and his individual treatment program.
Family involvement is an important component of a youth's treatment program and is identified as a risk-reducing variable. Parents and Guardians are required to participate in their youth's treatment through providing historical information to assist with assessment, participating in treatment planning, engaging in family therapy sessions, communicating with their youth through phone calls, letters, therapeutic day and home passes, providing an appropriate level of supervision to their youth, and maintaining communication with their youth's therapist and case manager. Family involvement is crucial to safety planning and supervision of youth as they experience therapeutic passes and plan for post-discharge.
